Latest Club News........
As usual - just as we are getting into the idea of bowling again the weather turns against us !
The Official Green Opening took place with a socially distanced 24 bowlers looking on as President Joy delivered the first bowl. This was followed by 6 Pairs matches played over 18 ends. It was great to actually get onto the green and try to awaken the bowling "muscle memory". The weather held out and the green played very well.
The Ladder competition is now underway with several matches being played - don't forget to book the green (for matches as well as roll-ups) by calling, messaging or emailing Jean Hayden in advance giving details off all participants. Results should be notified to Iain Selby.
Hopefully everyone will take the opportunity to get some practise in before the Leagues start on 17 May.
Please also take the time to check the notice boards at the Club and tick off your availability on the team sheets posted there.
We're nearly there !
We now have 24 bowlers confirmed for the Green Opening games on 24 April commencing at 13:00 and players have been informed. If, for any reason, you are unable to play please inform Richard as soon as possible so that a replacement can be arranged.
Please also note that from 25 April until 17 May the green will be available for roll-ups / ladder matches. However RINKS MUST BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE. Please contact Jean Hayden who will be happy to take your bookings.
Please also note that the Fixture lists have been updated as news reaches us from the Leagues Organisers. These dates are as accurate as we can make them but note that they are subject to alteration at short notice.
The Management Committee met this morning to discuss our approach to returning to Bowling in light of further Guidance received from the Sports Governing Bodies. It has been decided that we should hold a limited Green Opening on 24 April commencing at 13:00. This will be in the form of a roll up rather than club competition and will only be available to a limited number of attendees. Members will shortly receive an email with more details around participation and booking.
Now that we have received more details from the Federation League management committee (see below) it is clear that opportunities to bowl in the Leagues will be somewhat limited this season, therefore it has been proposed that we open up a booking system for Roll-ups
to ensure that anyone who wants to play, can, within the restrictions as they stand. 2 hour slots will be available from 12:00 to 18:00 week days and from 10:00 to 20:00 at weekends and can be booked by calling Jean Hayden. It is also proposed to run a Ladder competition throughout the season on the same basis as the one that was run last summer. This will be administered by Iain Selby. More details on both of the above will be sent out by email shortly.
We intend to run Club Competitions this year and entry forms will be available soon and urge all players to enter.
We can also confirm that, Regulations allowing, the Trip to Cromer on 7 August and the Club Tour in late September will still go ahead.
As noted above, it has been advised by the EBF management committee that all league competitions this year will be for 3 rinks of triples only and will be on a "Friendly" basis. i.e No Prizes, Trophies, Promotion or Relegation. The competitions will commence the week beginning May 17 with all fixtures prior to that date being cancelled.
The Bowls England fixtures have already been adjusted to take start date into account. However, we are still waiting for advices as to any change in Match format
Finally from now, please note that dates on the Diary are to be considered advisory and may well be subject to alteration or cancellation at short notice. We will however make every effort to ensure that any changes are notified by email as well as on this website as promptly as possible.
As the Covid situation changes, the Club Committee are constantly reviewing the guidance issued by the Government and Bowls governing bodies. In this regard the Committee will be meeting on 11 April to discuss our approach to returning to Bowls. More news (especially relating to the Green Opening Weekend) will follow after that meeting.
What we can advise at the moment is that the friendly fixtures planned for April 21 and 22 have been cancelled as has the May 16 Open Tournament.
Please keep checking the website which will be updated as soon as new information is received.
Diary and Committee Dates added.
It is with extreme sadness that we have to inform you that Diane Roper has sadly passed away after a short illness.
Diane was not only an excellent bowler but she had a wonderful personality.
Diane and her late husband John joined Sproughton from John Players and soon became good committed members.
supporting all club events.
Diane will be sadly missed and our thoughts and wishes go to the family.
Sadly, we also record the passing of Steve Long and John Barnet who both joined us for the 2020 season following the closure of the Suffolk Police B.C. Regrettably neither Steve or John had the opportunity to represent their new club, however they will be missed by all who knew them.
A belated Happy New Year to all. Hopefully 2021 will be kinder to us all than 2020 was !
Now that Christmas and the New Year are out of the way, and vaccinations proceeding apace our thoughts are turning to the possibility of getting out onto the hallowed greens again. Club Secretary Richard has been hard at work in his home office getting all the registrations and entries in place and we are now in a position to publish the fixture lists for the 2021 season. Obviously things are still not settled but your Committee are doing everything they can to ensure that we are ready to open the Club and start bowling as soon as it is safe to do so. More news will follow in due course, but for now all league fixtures (apart from the BE Mens Triples) can be found on the relevant tabs above.
We hope to see you all again soon ............................
First of all I hope everyone is keeping safe and well in these difficult times.
I'd also like to apologise for the lack of updates on this website, but the change to working from home has not been an easy one.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess that the summer was, to all intents, a write off as far as competitive bowls was concerned. However, thanks to Iain Selby and Jean Hayden Sproughton Bowlers were able to compete in a ladder competition. come 21 singles and 11 pairs competed (gently in most cases!) across the few weeks that we were able to bowl. The Play-offs were held on the weekend of 19/20 September with Alan Simmons, in the singles, and Peter Emsden/Alfie Orvis, in the pairs, taking the spoils. Grateful thanks to Iain and Jean for organising and the Greens Team for providing a great surface for all.
There has been a lot of work going on in the background to keep the Club running and no doubt most have seen the regular emails circulated by Richard Gee. Many thanks to Richard for keeping us all informed. More news will follow regarding plans for the coming 2021 season, lets hope we are all able to get back onto the green in the Spring.
Finally, from the Committee and everyone at the Club we wish bowlers everywhere, a Happy and Safe Christmas.
As most will no doubt be aware, both Bowls England and English Bowls Federation have decided to cancel all competitions for the whole of 2020. While Ray and the Greens team will do the minimum required to keep the green in good condition, sadly the Club will be Closed for the foreseeable future.
We will keep everyone informed of developments but in the meantime Please stay Safe.
Last few fixtures added - all now complete.

*****More Great News*****
Sproughton's BE Mixed Triples team led by Julie Spice have reached the play-off finals following a nail biting match against Hadleigh at Marlborough B.C.
After a close fought game it all came down to the last wood on the last end of the last rink to finish when Paul Taylor needed 2 shots to force an extra end shoot out, or 3 to win. The Umpire was called to a very close measure and eventually ruled in favour of a 3 for Sproughton giving us a win by 1 shot overall. Commiserations go to Hadleigh who put up a brave fight in a match that was a great advert for Bowls - competitive but friendly in equal measure.
The Final will be played at Roundwood BC on 31 August starting at 14:00. Once again - all supporters welcome.
Congratulations to Paul Taylor's Federation 2 wood Triples side who have completed a great season by winning Division B. The team won their last 4 matches to take the title by 1.5 points from Kirton.
Congratulations also go to Julie Spice's BE mixed Triples side who won their Division having lost only one match all season. They now play Hadleigh in the play-off Semi Final at Marlborough Bowls Club on Sunday 18 August at 14:00. All support would be welcome.
Well done to Joy Mackie's team who braved gale force winds to overcome Cromer in this year's summer away day. 37 players and guests travelled to Sherringham for a leisurely stroll around this quaint seaside town before moving on to Cromer for our match against 6 rinks of fours. Sproughton took some time to get to grips with the conditions being ahead on only 2 rink 'half time'. Obviously the break did us good as by the end we had turned things round and won 5 rinks to 1 and by over 30 shots. Thanks to Joy for organising and Cromer for their excellent hospitality.
36 club members took part in a drawn pairs tournament for the Presidents Cup, The weather was great and after 3 games of 10 ends, the final was held between Doreen Smith and Ray Ruffles against Kate Sarginson and Stephen Page. After a hard fought game, the eventual winners were Doreen and Ray, but thanks must also go to Kate and Stephen who put up a good fight. The Presidents Cup was presented to Doreen and Ray by Mick Jones.
During the afternoon, Mr.John Hammond, Ambassador for St Elizabeth Hospice attended and after a short speech outlining the role of the many aspects of the Hospice and Staff, and in particular how the hospice relies heavily on donations to maintain its work, because very little help comes from government. The cheque for £870 was then handed over to John from Mick this being the sum raised on Charity Day. Mick then informed the members and their families that an additional £700 of sponsorship was to be forwarded to the Hospice from Gallaghers Insurance (Kates employers) who had agreed to match upto £700 the monies raised on Charity Day. This brings the total monies for the Hospice to a magnificent £1570, which is brilliant. Thanks must go to Kate for applying for this.
Following the presentations, members and families then partook in a great buffet prepared by Ann, Jill, Tania and Teresa. Thanks must also go to June for organising the raffle.
Finally thanks to all members and families who came and made the day a success. (see Gallery)
Well done to Julie, Averill, Deidre and Joy who put up a good show before falling to Lincolnshire at Leamington Spa in the National Fours Finals. Better luck next year ! (see Gallery, with thanks to Mike Ling)

If you are at a loose end on Saturday 25 May, come down to Sproughton and watch some high level bowls. We are hosting the County 2 wood singles competition starting at 09:30. Teas and Coffee's will be available all day and the bar will be open from around 11:00.
There will also be Norton Cup action on Sunday 26 May against Margaret Catchpole with one set at home and one away starting at 14:00. All support would be appreciated.
On a cold and blustery, but thankfully dry, afternoon we hosted Bramford in the Annual Peter Taylor Cup match. Played over 6 rinks of 2 wood triples Sproughton wrestled the cup away from Bramford in a close fought tussle which up until the last 2 or 3 ends could have gone either way. Sproughton won on 4 rinks (2 of them by just one shot), drew on 1 and lost on 1 to take the match by 21 shots. As ever the game was played in a friendly but competitive spirit. The Cup was presented to Club Captain June Laws by Bramford President Peter Dodds (see Gallery).
A couple of reminders from the Committee meeting this morning:
1) There is still time to enter the Club Competitions - please get your forms and entry fees to Anne Jones as soon as possible.
2) Don't forget, the Club runs open tournaments on several Sundays and Tuesdays during the Season. Despite the weather taking a turn for the worse Sproughton's intrepid bowlers took to the green on Sunday to contest the Club Blocks competition. Played in 2 groups of 3 10 end games for Drawn Triples, the top teams from each Group played the final again over 10 ends. The Team of Geoff Spice, Iain Selby and Averill Kirkman lifted the trophy after a close fought game against Julie Spice, Joy Mackie and Ken Laws/Mike Snell. The Trophy was presented by President Mick Jones (photo in Gallery). Thanks to Colin Wright for organising and score keeping.
At the AGM it was agreed by all present that we would enter the same leagues as 2018 despite concerns that playing numbers were reduced. Captains made it clear that in order for this to work everyone must commit to playing the maximum number of games possible. Now that the league season is just about to begin it is imperative that everyone makes themselves available for all games. Please make every effort to do so.
At last, we are able to get out on the green and get rid of some of that winter rust ! As can be expected at this time of year, The Green opening and Sheila Herring Competition saw pretty much all 4 seasons in a matter of hours ! 40 intrepid bowlers plus several less hardy souls gathered to witness President Mick Jones open the green in bright sunshine, which once the snow/sleet/hail had stopped was followed by 3 games of 8 ends to determine the destination of the first silverware of the year. With the green running very well for the time of year the competition was won, for the second year running, by Mike Austin with Deidre Ruffles and Mike Snell sharing Runners Up spot. Photo's added in 2019 Gallery
Team sheets are already appearing on the notice boards for the start of the league season, so please take some time to let your Captains know of your availability.

All League Fixtures are now up to date.
20 January 2019
Welcome back to the land of Sproughton Bowls Club and apologies for the lack of news over the last 3 months or so. Family commitments and laptop issues have both conspired against the smooth running of the website. Hopefully we are now back on track to keep everyone up to date with what's happening in and around our Club.
As a starter, the Diary dates have been updated with what we know at the moment for the coming year, keep a look out for additions and amendments as we get more plans in place.
We also now have a full and (hopefully correct) set of BE fixtures for 2019 and these have now been added. EBF fixtures will be added when they are published.
As we are sure most of you know (or could have guessed) Finals Day morning was one of the wettest we have had for some weeks and the decision was taken to abandon the day and play the finals during the course of the following week. Congratulations to Erik Wicko, Roy Collett, Julie Spice, Jenny King and David Taylor who were all victorious during the week. Full results are updated on the Competitions tab. Unfortunately this means that the Finals Day Pairs competition was also cancelled.
There are still some tickets left for the Dinner and Dance on Saturday 17 November at the Bramford Golf Centre. Please speak to Jean or Julie to book your place. Full Details and menu choices are under Dates & Events or by clicking on this link
Don't forget the AGM on Tuesday October 23 at 19:00. This is your Club and the chance to have input into how it runs.
We are now getting to the sharp end of the season with just 2 events to be completed before greens are put to bed for the winter.
On Sunday 16 September Ray Ruffles' Mens EBA squad take on IBC in the Semi-Final of the County Millennium Trophy. The match starts at 10:00 at Ipswich and District BC (Rushmere Road). All support would be welcome. No matter what the outcome, stay on and watch the Final which will follow at 14:00.
Don't forget Finals Day and Green Closing on Sunday 23 September - come along, there will be be plenty of great Bowls to watch.
The Congratulations bit !
Firstly - To Anne Jones and her EBF Triples team who have been promoted for the second year running and will now play in A Division
next season. Well Done all.
Secondly - To John Tyler and his "Stan Wright" squad who have repeated last year's Final victory, this time over Hadleigh by 80 shots to 60 to retain the Cup. A brilliant result at Marlborough Bowls Club - well done to the whole squad - a fitting sign off for John and Lesley who are taking some time away from Bowls to travel.
Still more great news from Sproughton !
Ray Ruffles Millenneum Trophy team finally played their quarter final match at Hadleigh. After many attempts to arrange the game and then for the last effort to be called off due to the rain Sproughton pulled off an amazing 3 -2 victory. In a match watched by a large crowd of supporters from both Clubs, and in the gathering darkness, the result was finally decided by the last wood of the last end of the last game, when the Hadleigh Skip failed to dislodge the shot wood of Paul Taylor and Michael Austin. The Semi-Final and Final will both be played on September16. Well done all !
Well done also to President June Laws who's Presidents day raised some £ 1,400 for Help for Heroes. The Pairs Competition for the Presidents Cup was won by Di Roper and Julie Spice who beat David Taylor and Lesley Tyler in a keenly contested Final. Many thanks to all who participated in the day, especially to all those who helped make it such a success.
More great news for Sproughton !
Ken Lucas' Samford Reds who overcame Kesgrave Blues 86 shots to 84 to reach the Semi-Final of the Samford Knock Out Cup.
John Tyler's Stan Wright squad who beat Margaret Catchpole 90 shots to 63 to reach the Final for the second year running.
Watch this space for dates, times and venues for the above games.
Rink of the Week for this week once again comes from the Sproughton Reds team, this time it was Steven Page, Avril Kirkman and Evelyn Lucas who scoop the honours with a 37 shots to 4 victory at Norbridge. A truly remarkable scoreline.
Now that the Editor's holiday season is at an end we'll try to catch up on all the news from the last 4 weeks beginning with County Competition Success for Julie Spice who is 2018 BE 4 wood Singles Champion and now goes on the represent Suffolk in the National Finals at Leamington Spa on 9/10 August. Julie also reached the BE Mixed Pairs Semi Final with Adrian Beacroft and the EBF 2 wood Final but was forced to withdraw from the latter due to a clash of times with the former which the EBF Competition organisers refused to assist in resolving.
In the Club County Competitions John Tylers Stan Wright Cup squad, who are defending Champions, have now reached the Semi-Final and play Margaret Catchpole (2 rinks at home and 2 away) in Saturday 4 August starting at 14:00. All support would be appreciated at both venues. Ray Ruffles Men's Millenniem Cup squad have reached the Quarter Final stage and will play Hadleigh at Hadleigh on Thursday 9 August at 18:30, again all support would be appreciated.
On the league front it's safe to say that in most leagues this has been a challenging season with most teams trying to consolidate after promotions last year. This has proved to be a tough ask for some especially with several players being unavailable through long term illness (we wish everyone well for speedy recoveries). The pick this year are Anne Jones' EBF 3 wood Triples team who are in a strong second place in Division B and closing in on Promotion for the second year running.
Rinks of the Week
6 July - Samford Reds v Waldringfield - Steven Page, Mike Austin & Geoff Pratt 33 shots to 8
13 July - Samford Reds v Bredfield - Kath Caley, Iain Selby & Peter Emsden 26 shots to 11
20 July - Ipswich & District 3 wood Triples A Team v Hadleigh - Di Roper, Anne Jones & Gary Burton 24 shots to 7
27 July - BE Mixed Triples v Ipswich & District - Roy Collett, Sheila Wright & Ray Ruffles 27 shots to 10
Once again quite a successful week for Sproughton league teams with the Weeks Rink of the Week again coming from Ken Lucas' . Samford Reds. This time it was Di Roper, Tony Caley and Evelyn Lucas who took the honours with a 29 shots to 11 win.
An even better week this week with 7 wins from the 10 matches played, once again both Samford teams winning. In the Cups The Stan Wright team progressed to the 1/4 finals with a win over Holbrook, but unfortunately the Junior Cup side fell at the area Semi Final stage losing away at California. The next round of the Norton Cup is on Sunday this week with 2 rinks at Boxford and 2 at home starting at 14:00.
This weeks Rink of the Week playing for Ken Lucas' Samford Reds was Maggie Fisk, Joy Mackie and Iain Selby who ran up a score of 37 shots to 12.
A better week in the leagues this week with half of the matches being won by Sproughton. Well do to both Samford teams who recorded big wins. This weeks Rink of the Week were on from for Bill Wedgewood's Samford Blues - Albert Southgate, Denyse Palmer and Bob Jones romping to a 31 shots to 8 win.
What a great day it was yesterday. President June's charity day in aid of Help For Heroes was not only blessed with perfect weather but HM The Queen even arranged a fly past which was rounded off by the Red Arrows! 15 sets of bowlers contributed to a very successful day both on and off the beautifully prepared green. The Tournament was won by Rachel Barber & Jean Taylor who overcame Paul and Isabelle Morey in the Final, Third place was taken by Joy Mackie and Les Smith who beat Albert Southgate and John Mott in the play off. (Pictures added to 2018 Gallery)
As part of the day, an excellent lunch was served by June and her catering team and a raffle was run with a huge number of prizes all generously donated by bowlers and local sponsors. On behalf of June and Help For Heroes we'd like to say a massive thanks to everyone who helped with organising and on the day which raised a massive £ 1,456
This weeks Rink of the Week were David Taylor, Jean Hayden and Adrian Beecroft who ran up a 27 shots to 8 win in the Div C BE match at Home to Ipswich & District.
Only 5 games this week with the 4 league fixtures producing 1 win and 3 defeats. But the best news came from the Junior Cup where John Tyler's team traveled to Debenham and won on all four rinks to reach the Area Semi Final. This will be played against California away on Friday 22 June starting at 18:30. All supporters welcome.
This weeks Rink of the Week were Deirdre Ruffles, Anne Jones and Geoff Spice who won their rink 24 shots 8 in the BE Triples Div C match at Roundwood.
The Draw sheets for the Club Competitions are now on the notice board in the Clubhouse details will be posted here in due course.
4 Wins and 5 defeats from our League fixtures this week, but much better news on the Junior Cup front with John Tyler's team beating Hadleigh by 5 shots in their first match (it was this match the produced last weeks Rink of the Week with Lesley Tyler, Ann Craigie and Erik Wicko winning 25 shots to 9) and then following that with a win over IBC this Friday to set up the next round away to Debenham on 1 June. This week's Rink of the Week also came from the Junior Cup - Sheila Pratt, Ray Ruffles and Geoff Pratt winning by 34 shots to 11.
Not quite such a successful week on the greens this week with 2 wins and 5 defeats. This weeks Rink of the Week comes from the Ipswich and District Division D match at home to Stone Lodge with Colin Martin, Mick King and Colin Skerrett winning by 31 shots to 8. Well done to them.
Notes from this months Committee meeting:
*** IMPORTANT *** - It can't have escaped anyone's notice that there is a huge Data Protection drive going on brought about by some EU legislation. We at the Bowls Club are not exempt and we need to have consent for us to hold and use everyone's details digitally. For example Names, Addresses, Phone Numbers, Photographs etc. We must have this in place by 25 May at the latest. Please therefore make arrangements to sign the list in the folder at the Clubhouse to indicate your acceptance. Please let David Biggs or Richard Gee know as soon as possible if you have any objections.
Norfolk Weekend - Due to a change in financial arrangements by the Hotel we now need to pay for the booked accommodation before arrival. Please make payment of £ 55 to John Thompson by mid-July.
Club Competitions - The closing date for Club Competitions has been extended to 31 May. Entries are very slow this year so please get your forms back to Anne Jones as soon as possible.
Green Preparation - If anyone has a Competition Match booked please ensure it is added to the Green Usage Planner on the wall next to the team sheets as soon as possible so that the Greens Team can ensure the surface is in the best condition possible. If you have a last minute request please call Ray Ruffles who will do his best to assist.
After the sun and warmth of opening weekend we reverted to true eaarly season bowling weather with torrential rain on Monday leading to all games being called off. Keep an eye out for the rearranged dates as they come through. The weeks remaining fixtures were all played with 3 wins, a draw and 3 defeats the final tally.
Our first Rink of the week came from the 3 wood triples match against Kesgrave on Wednesday with Julie Spice, Albert Southgate and Mick Jones running up a 41 shots to 2 victory. Well done!
Well didn't the weather treat us well for the opening weekend. Clear blue skies, bright sunshine and unseasonably high temperatures. The clubhouse, green and surrounds all looked fantastic thanks to all of the hard work put in over the winter by a large team of volunteers. Our thanks to everyone involved. Over 40 members turned out to watch Club President June Laws deliver the first wood and then to take part in the Sheila Herring Trophy Drive which was won by Mike Austin with Roy Collett taking the Runners-up spot. As is tradition Sunday saw another large turn out for the Club Blocks competition which was won by Jean Hayden, Di Roper and Ed Palmer who overcame Iain Selby Julie Spice and Roger French in a closely fought final that needed an extra end to separate the teams. (See Photo's in the Gallery)
Having basked in the summer weather for opening weekend, our pre-season friendlies on Tuesday against Copdock & Washbrook and Thursday against East Bergholt were played in weather that reverted to the usual early season sort - grey, wet and distinctly cool. Nevertheless, the teams for both evenings were over subscribed, and both games were enjoyed by all.
Just 10 days to go until the Green Opening and Opening Drive so time to get those woods polished ! The Opening drive will start at 14:00 on Saturday 21st followed by the Club Blocks Competition on Sunday 22nd, please be at the Club by 11:30 for a 12:00 start.
Bowling is preceded by a training session in use of the defibrillator on Friday evening 20th at 19:00. Please try to attend as the more people who know how to use this valuable piece of life saving equipment the better.
We still need more entries for the Sunday and Tuesday open tournaments. Dates are elsewhere on the website, please let Mick Jones know if you would like to enter.

The Ladies of Sproughton are celebrating winning the Ipswich area C "Victrix Ludorum Cup" which is awarded to the Club achieving most points in EBF County Competitions. Congratulations to all.
Wow pt II - Just like London Buses ! - when we thought it couldn't get better than the 4's Final on Saturday, John Tyler's Stan Wright squad have added more silverware to the groaning shelves at the Sproughton Pavillion. At a sunny and very hot Copdock and in front of a large crowd of Sproughton supporters the Cup was secured with one end still to play on the final rink. Well done to everyone in the squad and thanks to everyone who turned out to support.
Wow - the 2017 Bowls season just keeps getting better ! Having gone through the regular league season unbeaten and then beating Holywells BC in the semi-final Sproughton's Mixed 4's team have now finished the season on a high. After 21 tense ends, especially the last 3 or 4 Kate's team kept their nerve to fight off a determined late challenge from a very strong Ipswich & District to win the Cup by 2 shots. Congratulations to the whole team.
Now for the Stan Wright Cup ! Come along and support the team at Copdock on Monday at 14:00.
Congratulations to Kate Sarginson and her Mixed 4's team who have reached the play-off final after a convincing win over Holywells BC at Margaret Catchpole yesterday. Well done everyone and thanks to all those who came along to support.

John Thompson's travelling team have returned from Wymondham Dell after their annual pilgrimage to Norfolk. This time ably Captained by Ray Ruffles (if not on the green certainly off it!) in Johns absence, the team performed extremely well and ran out winners by 144 shots to 106 having taken 4 rinks out of the six playing. The match, which as always was played in the best of spirits, was followed by an excellent Roast dinner. Thanks to all who played and everyone at Wymondham for a hugely enjoyable day out, we look forward to a repeat next year.
Everyone in attendance would also like to thank John for organising the trip and wish him a speedy recovery.
Great News - Congratulations to John Tyler's "Stan Wright" squad who, last night, played their semi-final match against Norbridge. Contested over two rinks away and two at home Sproughton were victorious by 9 shots on aggregate. Well done all. The Final will be played at Copdock B.C. on Bank Holiday Monday, 28 August.
Commiserations to Iain Selby's EBF Team who missed out by just 1 shot in their last game against Promotion rivals Ipswich Bowls Club in Division D. Needing a 5 - 2 win they drew 73 - 73 and 3.5 points each. Very hard luck, but a great season none the less.
Thanks to everyone who attended Presidents Day. 44 Players competed over 3 rounds of 10 end matches with the top pairs in each group - Tony Caley and Michael King from Group 2 and Kath Caley and Geoff Spice from Group 1 playing a 10 end final for the Fincham Cup. The final was very closely contested with Kath and Geoff taking the honours by 4 shots.
Before presenting the Trophy, Kate Sarginson revealed that her Presidents Year charity, The St Elizabeth Hospice will receive a cheque for just over £ 1,700 raised during the season Congratulations Kate and well done to everyone who contribute.

They have completed the "regular" season with the fantastic stats of Played 10, Won 10, Lost 0, Points For 39.5, Points against 10.5. Well done everyone involved. Now for the play-off's................
Disappointingly (although I guess unsurprisingly) Framlingham have now cancelled both of our Monday evening BE Mixed Triples Div C fixtures including the twice rearranged Home game from the 6 June. These matches will not now be re-scheduled.
Kate Sarginson's Mixed 4's team who won their 9th consecutive match to confirm that they are Champions of their division. One more league match remains on 28 July (come along to congratulate them and enjoy the evening) and then the play-offs. More details to follow.
Bill Wedgewood's Samford Blues team who travelled to Ipswich Hospitals in the Cup and won by 75 shots to 72.
Commiserations to Ken Lucas' Samford Reds team who were also drawn away to Norbridge, also in the Cup, but went down 69 shots to 83.
As most will already know, Margaret Garnham sadly passed away on 28 June. Margaret was a member of the Bowls club for in excess of 40 years and, as Chair, was instrumental in the building of the magnificent Clubhouse we all use today. She was also a staunch supporter of all of the Club's activities and ran the Tuesday Pairs Tournaments for many years. She will be sadly missed by all.
Her funeral will take place at Bramford Church on Friday August 4 at 10:30 am.
